Dombfalva: la comunità dove la terra incontra l’arte

Just 40 kilometers from Budapest, hidden in the Hungarian countryside, lies a place where another future is being quietly cultivated. Its name is Dombfalva—and it’s much more than an ecovillage. It’s a creative sanctuary. A fertile ground where nature, youth, and culture meet to rediscover the deeper meaning of living.

A project rooted in care

Founded in 2004 by the Játszoda Association, Dombfalva began as a support initiative for children and youth with special educational needs. From the start, it was guided by a simple yet powerful intuition: nature heals, teaches, and connects.

Over the years, the project evolved into a vibrant eco-cultural hub, where sustainability is intertwined with art, education, and community life.

Today, Dombfalva stretches across four hectares of land, surrounded by woods and fields. A space where every path invites exploration and every season brings its own teachings.

Learning through experience

Learning at Dombfalva is direct and hands-on, far from conventional classrooms. The art workshops, with a strong focus on music, become spaces to explore individual and collective well-being. At the same time, the eco-building projects offer real-world learning in sustainable construction, using natural and local materials to create structures that blend beautifully into the landscape.

Environmental education also takes creative forms. Outdoor games, sensory labs, and nature-based escape rooms challenge participants to collaborate, solve problems, and deepen their connection with the natural world.

Festivals, art, and connection

One of the beating hearts of Dombfalva is the Organix Festival—a gathering where music, Earth, and community weave into something much more than a celebration. It’s a place for young eco-minded souls to meet, learn, and co-create.

Throughout the festival, live performances and concerts flow into creative workshops, group experiences, and moments of shared reflection. It uplifts the local art scene, strengthens intergenerational bonds, and creates new bridges between culture and nature.

Building with the Earth

Dombfalva is also a place where you learn to build with your hands and with intention. Natural building is at the heart of many projects here. Participants work with earth, wood, and straw, learning how to shape dwellings that are both functional and poetic.

Each building tells a story—of vision, teamwork, creativity. Every construction site becomes an open-air classroom, where skills are passed down and possibilities grow.

Volunteering, cooking, and creating

One of the most awaited projects is ECO-TRIBE II: Garden, Cook, Create. From July 10 to August 10, 2025, young people from across Europe will come together for a 30-day immersive experience.

They’ll garden, cook with local ingredients, and co-create natural art installations. It’s not just about volunteering—it’s about living differently, more slowly, more meaningfully, more together.

An open invitation

If you feel the need to slow down, get your hands dirty, and reconnect with the beauty of simplicity, Dombfalva is calling.

Whether you want to join a European project, share your skills, or simply visit and breathe in something different, there’s space for you in this blooming village.

In a Nutshell

Dombfalva is a cultural and ecological village just outside Budapest. Born from a blend of education, creativity, and sustainability, it offers events, workshops, and international volunteer programs that bring people together from across Europe.

It’s a place where sustainability is lived, not preached. Where art is hands-on, the Earth is a teacher, and community is a daily choice. A seed planted in Hungarian soil, nurtured by those brave enough to dream differently.
